5 items to look for in a thrift store
We've all heard of the expression "Thrift shopping". But is there any such worthy thing as thrifting? The answer to this is both yes and no, because yes, you can find some great things at thrift stores but only when you know where to search for them. Speaking from personal experience, many people who have never been to a thrift store may perceive it as junk, though it might be true in most cases however I've found some great household items and other things that I wouldn't mind having at my home (and perhaps yours!). These are the top five things that you can look for to make your next visit to the thrift shop even more exciting:
1. Furniture
I guess we're all sick and tired of seeing the same white IKEA furniture everywhere, even though it looks nice. However, because most people own IKEA furniture, it's become a little boring. It will still look like any other piece of furniture no matter how many times you repaint it. So, if you are looking for unique types of furniture at a low cost, then thrift stores are the go-to place. Thrift stores are brimming with amazing finds that you can purchase at a fraction of the cost of retail stores. We can all agree that the old furniture was of higher quality, and the craftsmanship was unrivaled. Consider having vintage furniture in your living room, it will not only level up your interior but people wouldn't be able to find the same furniture anywhere.
However, before buying anything from a thrift store it's important to know what kind of condition your new piece will be in and whether or not it needs any repairs before coming home with you.
2. Vintage Blazers and overcoats
We all know that a blazer and overcoat is often staple piece of an outfit because of their versatility, however, you can add some more style to your wardrobe with a vintage blazer or overcoat. Vintage clothing made up of top-notch quality is often hard to find in retail stores but if found, it is really expensive! but the quality and the design it is still unmatchable, for example, if we look at the vintage pieces of Forever 21, Chanel, and many more brands, we will notice that the fabrics used in earlier times were on a whole different level plus the designs was magnificent and creative, which is a missing factor in a lot of clothing items today.
The majority of the vintage items end up at a thrift store because of the changes in fashion over the time period. However, we can see that nowadays a lot of youths are going back to the 80s or 90s fashion. So, now is the time to run to your local thrift store and search for some vintage pieces.
3. Old books
If you are an avid reader, you must have never been satisfied with the books you have and have always wanted to buy more, but if money is an issue, you should immediately go to your local thrift store. When you're looking for a good book, you might not be able to find it at your local bookstore. But that doesn't mean there aren't any libraries or thrift stores selling used books across the country!
First of all, an obvious thing is you will save money plus it's also better for the environment. Another thing is that the warmth and smell of old books are irresistible because it's like wine, it gets better as it ages. Imagine reading a used book and being a part of the shared book history. So, If you want to try out learning something new and are willing to spend some time looking through boxes of old books, this could be a great idea. You might even find yourself learning more than what was in the course material—and who knows? you might end up opening your own little library with all those classics and best sellers of every genre for a fraction of what they cost new.
4. Kitchenware
Kitchen appliances are frequently the most expensive items in a home. Thrift stores sell kitchen utensils and appliances for a fraction of their original price, allowing you to buy more than one item! It's also a great way to get money back on something that no longer fits your decorating style or is simply no longer needed. There are dozens of vintage kitchenware options, but keep in mind that a beautiful item may not have a brand name written on it, so we must look for quality and style.
5. Denim
Do you ever wonder why your body doesn't look good in denim? But when you try your mother's vintage denim it just looks stunning. The answer to this is simple, most body types look great in vintage cuts because of the material and also how it was tailored. Denim is never out of fashion but finding good quality vintage denim can be expensive. Thank god we can always rely on thrift stores when it comes to finding good denim without breaking the bank.
